WACLALS was founded in 2016 with a conference at the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, and was officially accredited to the Association for Commonwealth Literature And Language Studies (The mother body of the association) in 2015. The organization has a storied history and has held numerous international conferences since its founding.
