7TH WAACLALS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
THEME: Migration, Conflicts and Existential Threats in Africa: Throwbacks from Linguistics,
Literature, Arts, Culture, Communication and Media Landscapes
CALL FOR PAPERS
The early years of the 21st Century have been experiencing serious global threats such as climate change, wars, epidemics, famine, massive migration, etc. Although the problem of
migration and displacement of populations worldwide is not new, the situation has somewhat worsened at the dawn of this century. but only the periods when it occurs, the treatment
of the people concerned, and the various ways of solving their problems differ. Africa is currently hard hit by the problem of the youth’s massive migration to Western countries. The
portrayal of Africa as a ‘continent on the move’ is linked to stereotypical ideas of Africa as a continent of poverty and conflict. In recent years, clandestine migration from Africa to
Europe and America has reached alarming proportions. This irregular migration from sub-Saharan Africa and the Maghreb has also been associated with international crime,
trafficking, and terrorism (Casttles et al., 2014). Conflicts and existential threats such as famine, poverty, food security, wars, terrorism, gender equality, and child education among
others, are other important problems plaguing Africa today (Wolf et al. (2001); Aremu (2010); Olatunji (2013), etc.).
This conference thus aims to investigate the problems pointed out above from linguistic, literature, art, cultural, communication, and media perspectives. We invite potential
