Rethinking Gender Liberation in Alex la Guma’s A Walk in the Night and Tsitsi Danbgarembga’s Nervous Conditions

This study deconstructs the one-sided feminist liberation project in Africa, highlighting the vulnerability of the male child due to over-emphasis on female empowerment. It analyzes the effects of this imbalance in two African novels using Derridian and Saussurean deconstruction and binary opposition, arguing that neglecting male empowerment paradoxically disempowers women. The study advocates for a balanced gender liberation project that empowers both girl and boy children for a safer future.
